The main religion in Tibet is a unique form of Mahayana Buddhism. (Great Vehicle)
IT differs from other forms in that it places particular importance on the
role of the Lama, a term not denoting just any Monk, but a person spiritual
master, or teacher (Guru) alone. For this reason it is often called Lamaism
and outside of Tibet is only found in Mongolia, Sikkim and Buhtan. Tibetan
Buddhism also incorporates aspects of Vajrayana Buddhism (Diamond Vehicle).
This is most apparent in the meditation practices, which focus on visual meditation.
Bon is the religion that preceded Buddhism in Tibet it has influenced the
development of Tibetan Buddhism through both conflict and cooperation.
